What's Cooking: Citrus salad with basil sugar | Nooga.com - Nooga.com

Summer is my season. I love it with all my heart and my birthday is in the summer, so that gives me another reason to love this hot season. Besides my birthday, there are other reasons to enjoy the summer sun, like dining al fresco and copious amounts of ice cream. But no matter how much I love summer, that doesn’t change the fact that it’s sort of unbearably hot outside right now. It seems like no amount of water or ice cream that I consume can make the rising temperatures feel comfortable—but that doesn’t stop me from trying. Fruit is something we should snack on pretty regularly and I find it quite refreshing, especially in the hot months. Fresh oranges, grapefruits, melons and berries are all good for you and can offer a small bit of relief in this Southern summer heat. Whether you’re adding fruit in sangria (which is highly recommended) or freezing it to use as flavored ice cubes, fruit is definitely one of my go-to remedies for fighting summer heat. This week’s citrus salad may not be the healthiest of ways to consume fruit, but it’s really delicious and definitely quite refreshing. You may already know how to do this, but just in case, here’s an easy tutorial from The Kitchn. To make the basil sugar, combine basil leaves and sugar in a food processor (a blender could work, too) until the sugar has a slightly green color. Do a taste test and see if the sugar has the right balance of basil and sweetness.

La mince ligne rouge... The thin red line...
The thin red line... Picture making with Blender-3D inspiré de BlenderGuru... Tu m'a libéré.
