Induction cooking is not a radically new invention; it has been widely used all around the world. With recent improvements in technology and the consequent reduction of component costs, Induction cooking equipment is now more affordable than ever. I found a really sweet clean-up short cut (I'm a messy cook). Induction cooktops do not generate heat - they turn the pan into a heat source by magnetically inducing an eddy current in the ferrous metal. (Similar analogy is what microwaves would do to water molecules). Dad and I did some experiments - we calculated about a 95% efficiency in converting electrical energy from the walls into heat pumped into the pot's content (we timed the boiling of a known volume of water, and calculated the energy transfer rate and compared it against literature values of what the burner coil draws). Yes, it runs in the family. To give you an idea how fast this burner is - if I'm cooking noodles (ramen), the water's at a rolling boil before I can gather and prep all the ingredients. The one advantage is for slow simmering (and splattering) of sauces, soups, etc - the pan will never exceed too much more than 100 deg C / 212 deg F. This is well below the flash point of paper.
