Can't beat the convenience of Uber though. It's gotten me and others out of many touchy situations. I booked 6 exec class vehicles from a car service for my wedding last month. 2 hours before the wedding they called and said they only have ONE driver available because the rest were on vacation! Ended up using UBER to get everyone to and from the venue in London.
It is impossible that Uber is less secure than taxi, as you need to verify yourself before you become a Uber driver. And any ride deal is pegged to a verified driver instead of a car. You could have a fake taxi, which is more possible than having a fake account that passes all the verification and authentification.
